JONATHAN GOMEZ: From the USL to Beating Real Madrid | Why Mexico and USMNT Came Calling

Thumbnail
Jonathan Gomez proved that strategic patience pays off. Born in Texas with Mexican heritage, he began his journey at the FC Dallas Academy, where he played alongside his brother, Johan Gomez. But he soon realized that to play in Europe, he and his family needed a different blueprint than the traditional MLS path, one that would lower his price tag for European clubs. That’s how Jonathan joined Louisville City in the USL Championship as a springboard to European football. Herculez Gomez takes us inside the mind of a young dual-national defender called by Tata Martino to represent "El Tri" almost at the same time the USMNT was looking for his flair. His talent is so evident that he went from playing with Real Sociedad B under the legendary manager Xabi Alonso to Albacete's memorable cup run against Real Madrid. Jonathan revealed everything from that historic night at the Estadio Carlos Belmonte, when Álvaro Arbeloa took charge after Xabi Alonso’s early departure with Los Blancos, and how that experience has fueled Jonathan's current season in Germany’s second division with VFL Osnabrück.
